5 tips How to make New Year’s Resolutions happen

Can you believe it’s November already? In few days it will be that time of the year again when there are parties all round to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

31st of December is a special day for us; it’s the time when we like to stop and reflect on the year that has gone by. We remember both our triumphs and our missteps, our promises made and broken. The times we opened ourselves up to great adventures and closed ourselves down for fear of getting hurt.

Each year we set up new plans, new years resolutions and mostly we hit a brick wall, fail or slow down a bit.

Why is it happening? Here are my top 3 reasons:

  1. We make them for someone else, by forgetting what is really important for us, what we would like to do, have or make
  2. We afraid of change, because it might not be easy, it might not be immediate and most of all we will have to take the responsibility and do our best to actually make the change happen
  3. Resolutions are not specific enough, and that the reason why often we get lost in action or simply get confused.

Life coaching is aimed at helping people see their life from different perspective and giving them the confidence to move forward.

Starting point for coaching therefore does not have to be problem or issue, but can be exploring something you excel in and want to extend even further. You choose what to focus on, than all methods and strategies of individual work will be tailor made to your needs.

New Year’s Resolutions PROGRAMME:

Start your engine. Face old habits and be ready for new ones.
Take a peace of paper and draw a line sharing it on two parts. Take a moment to reflect on your life, your feelings and your time. Find the answer on: What is the most important for me in my life? What I value the most? What do I like? What makes me happy? Try to formulate all your answers in a way that it will describe you, for example: If you love seeing your kids smiling and laughing and this is what makes you feel happy, write it like this – I feel the happiest when I’m realising that I’m a great mother for my kids.

Remember to write down your answers in a first part, so you can refer to it and face your old habits now. Think about what was stopping you from succeed previous plans and goals. Realise all obstacles, barriers and behaviours. Write it down on the opposite side of your previous answers.

Set goals and unleash creativity. Form an image of your perfect future.
In Week 2 you are learning how to set up new goals and new plans through unleashing creativity and using your imagination. Don’t be afraid to create a perfect vision of your life. Whatever your goals are, finding a job you love, repairing your relationship, dropping excess weigh or simply being ready for next exciting chapter in your life, the work you have to do now is to build compact vision of it. Write down all your new goals and prioritise it, than break each goal into smaller steps. Remember to give particular time deadline to each of your goal.

Find an energetic joy and increase your motivation.
The key role in achieving your goals is to find a deeper reason why it is worth to achieve it. Look at your goals (from Week 2) and think, Why would you like to achieve them? Close your eyes and imagine how do you feel when all your plans and goals are achieved already? How would you describe feeling your personal success? Now come back to today and think about the first step that you can make to be closer the success. For example: If your goal is ‘effective time management’ by knowing what does it mean to you, what ‘effective’ mean and how important it is, you are building inner level of motivation. Think what you will get by achieving ‘effective time management’, for ex. it might improve your family time, you will be more productive at work, you will find time for yourself, it will makes you feel happier and more organized, your life will be balanced again. Those all ideas are increasing your energy and motivation, so whenever you’ll have some doubts you will remember what your are fighting for and why.

Identify your strengths. Get perspective. Design a new way.
Think how good you are. I know it’s never easy to admit how successful we are. Go back to 5 the most important moments in your life and remind yourself the lessons learnt from that time. What exactly have you learnt? What does it gave you? For example: The moment you become mother or father. This particular experience gave you the lesson that you’ll never forget. You learnt how to be strong for two now, how to express your feelings without naming them, how to understand body language and enjoying the moments. You are stronger and more aware of who you are and who you want to be. By thinking about 5 moments like this you will identify your strengths, which will help you, get new perspective and go through life with confident.
